PROGNOSIS extends its popular IP telephony management software to support Nortel environments

Integrated Research announced the official launch of support for Nortel IP communications technology through version 9.5 of its market-leading PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Manager software.

Filling a gap not covered by traditional PBX administration, network management and event management tools, PROGNOSIS has become the provider of choice for the world's largest enterprises and service providers since its introduction in 2000.

This new development gives PROGNOSIS an opportunity to address the combined install base for the world's 3 largest enterprise IP telephony vendors: Cisco, Avaya and Nortel. It also provides a highly attractive solution for the increasing number of large organizations faced with the challenge of managing a multi-vendor deployment.

"Many organizations are supporting multi-vendor IP-PBX systems to maintain vendor independence, or as a byproduct of the inheritance of legacy systems," said Mark Brayan, CEO of Integrated Research. "We have a management tool that gives a single, unified view across an organization's entire IP telephony environment. By adding Nortel, we can now support more customers and gain access to a new set of market opportunities."

Product Manager for IP telephony, John Dunne and his team will be on hand at VoiceCon 2008 in Orlando to demonstrate the latest version of PROGNOSIS and provide further information on this new development.

PROGNOSIS Benefits:
For homogeneous Nortel environments, PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Manager 9.5 provides real-time monitoring and management in critical areas such as voice quality, device status and utilization as well as system performance and fault notification.

The benefit of using PROGNOSIS in a mixed Nortel environment with Avaya and/or Cisco is that operations staff are given a single, unified view across all their disparate IP telephony environments. PROGNOSIS also eliminates the cost prohibitive exercise of procuring and maintaining multiple IP telephony management tools as well as reducing staff training times.

MSP clients benefit by being able to extend a common service-level offering to all of their customers, regardless of their IP communication platform.

Compatibility:
PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Manager 9.5 supports Nortel CS1000 models E, S and M running Communication Server 4.0, 4.5 or 5.0.

In addition to the new vendor support, other PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Management Reporter enhancements include:

  • Simplified installation and configuration
  • Improved scalability through lower operating overhead and increased processing efficiency
  • Revamped interface and improved reporting content in response to customer feedback
  • Enhanced flexibility, enabling customers to extract only the data that suits their needs

This new release forms part of the PROGNOSIS suite of IP telephony management and reporting solutions, giving PROGNOSIS an opportunity to address the combined install base for the world's 3 largest enterprise IP telephony vendors, Cisco, Avaya, and soon, Nortel.

“We are making it easier for large enterprises and service providers to gain visibility of their IP telephony environment,” said John Dunne, Product Manager at Integrated Research. “By adding Avaya and Nortel we are extending support to those customers supporting multi-vendor IP-PBX systems, as well as gaining access to a new set of market opportunities”.

Mr. Dunne and his team will be on hand at VoiceCon 2008 in Orlando to provide further information and demonstrate the latest version of PROGNOSIS.

PROGNOSIS Benefits:
PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Management Reporter gives enterprises and service providers management-level visibility of IP telephony usage trends and service levels. It addresses the needs of network and operations managers by generating reports incorporating service level analysis, operational metrics and business-level statistics. This information enables improved planning, optimization and problem rectification.

For hosted IP telephony providers, PROGNOSIS generates on-demand troubleshooting reports to identify the root cause of issues and can be used to authenticate service performance against KPIs and SLAs.

SEPA: GALITT facilitates cross-border connections

SEPA is moving. A first step was reached by banking players at the end of January with the set-up of Credit Transfers in accordance with the SEPA standard. On the side of the SCF (“SEPA Cards Framework”), big maneuvers have already started and European banks are working out cross-border strategies. Thus they are launching connection projects to various European and national networks as well as processors. The development of such connections involves financial institutions in validating their new interfaces and their good working order.

To support its customers in testing the new connections, GALITT has developed a large range of protocol simulators: Base I/SMS (VisaNet), MAS/MDS (MasterCard Banknet), Berlin Group and Eufiserv as well as an increasing number of national protocols (BIM in the Netherlands, e-rsb in France, VocaLink in the UK…).

Vincent DORNIC, Executive Director of the Software activity of GALITT, said: “While the SEPA is coming, our customers are fully benefiting from the solutions proposed by GALITT in order to combine the different offers from European networks and so propose new services. Our simulators allow our clients to take advantages of a unique and well-proven test platform to manage the diversity of European network protocols.”

These simulators are based on KaNest®, the transactional simulator developed by GALITT since 2000. KaNest® is a unique test tool which combines both the abilities of unit tests required to tune the interfaces and the facilities of validation tests for phases preparing the connection approval with networks.

STORServer STORServer Continues to Enhance Offerings for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Users with Two New Software Products

STORServer® , manufacturer of the all-in-one suite of Business Continuity Appliances, announces today the STORServer® Reporter for IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager (TSM) and the STORServer® Agent for VMware® Consolidated Backup . STORServer Reporter keeps an eye on users' TSM environments when they can't and provides live data gathering, and one button analysis, reporting and trending of users' critical backup servers and clients. STORServer Agent is the only software to integrate VMware Consolidated Backup with TSM.

About the STORServer Reporter for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager

STORServer Reporter's live data collection process runs continuously to capture data from TSM servers.  Reporter uses the data to provide reports and alerts of current server environments and to generate reports for problem analysis, trending, hardware utilization statistics and configuration inconsistencies.  Reporter uses its own database to analyze data and generate reports, so TSM servers are not impacted by long running queries or select statements.

The historical views that the Reporter provides of the user's TSM environment and operations are a great troubleshooting and problem determination tool for hard to diagnose problems, such as intermittent client or process failures and network bandwith issues. STORServer Reporter also assists users with the critical task of confirming compliance with service level agreements and regulatory requirements by providing a complete picture of client backup completion status and trends.

STORServer Reporter reduces the amount of time users spend managing daily reports and operations and provides an easy to use method for predicting future resource requirements.

About the STORServer Agent for VMware Consolidated Backup

The STORServer Agent for VMware Consolidated Backup improves manageability of backups and reduces costs, by centralizing the backup of VMware ESX servers to your TSM server, thereby eliminating the need to have individual backup clients on each virtual machine or VMware

ESX server. Consolidating backups of virtual machines with the STORServer Agent and using Consolidated Backup snapshots in the SAN also reduces resource utilization on production virtual machines, hosts and the LAN during backup operations and allows the virtual machine to continue to operate without impact during backup operations.

STORServer has previously offered the Agent bundled only with the STORServer Appliance, but is now offering it packaged with a VCB only appliance. STORServer is also offering the Agent as a software only solution for customers who have their own Windows server and will install the VCB proxy on their own server.  Now, TSM customers have a new option for backing up their VMware infrastructure.  They no longer have to figure out complicated scripts and scheduling supplied by VMware for VCB and they no longer have to deploy a TSM backup-archive client on each virtual machine or on each ESX Server.
